From Voice to Vision:
How Václav Havel Airport Prague Elevated Communication with TASSTA

Keeping the Heart of Czech Aviation in Sync
Václav Havel Airport Prague is the largest international airport in the Czech Republic, welcoming millions of passengers and facilitating vital cargo operations every year. As the nation’s primary gateway to the world, it operates around the clock, coordinating thousands of moving parts—from passenger services and technical maintenance to cargo logistics and security.
At this scale, communication is the lifeline. Precision, speed, and reliability are not just operational goals—they are non-negotiable.
At this scale, communication is the lifeline. Precision, speed, and reliability are not just operational goals—they are non-negotiable.
The Challenge: Bridging the Gap Between Voice and Data
For years, the airport relied on a professional TETRA radio network to keep its teams connected. This system excelled at what it was designed for:
-
Reliable, secure voice communication across the entire airport
-
Encrypted channels for operational and security teams
-
Uninterrupted coverage even during crises
However, TETRA’s narrowband design limited its ability to transmit large multimedia files—photos, videos, or detailed documents. As modern airport operations increasingly depend on visual data and real-time information sharing, a gap emerged:
The airport needed a solution that could combine the proven resilience of TETRA voice with the power of broadband multimedia communication.
The Solution: TASSTA – Uniting Two Worlds
In 2024, Prague Airport began testing TASSTA, a mission-critical communication platform running over 4G and 5G networks. Partnering with DCom, spol. s r.o., the deployment started with a year-long trial phase on TASSTA’s secure cloud infrastructure.
Key TASSTA capabilities:
Key TASSTA capabilities:
-
Push-to-Talk and Push-to-Video for instant voice and visual updates
-
Photo, video, and document sharing for faster decision-making
-
Location tracking, including precise indoor positioning via Bluetooth beacons
-
Advanced safety features like man-down alerts, fall detection, and inactivity alarms
-
End-to-end encryption and secure data archiving
-
Full TETRA integration at the network level, ensuring seamless interoperability between radio and broadband users
Results: Faster, Smarter, Safer
By 2025, after the successful trial, TASSTA was deployed on the airport’s own hardware infrastructure and fully integrated with its TETRA network. The benefits have been immediate:
-
Unified Communication: TETRA’s voice reliability combined with TASSTA’s broadband capabilities
-
Operational Efficiency: Real-time video and image sharing for faster problem resolution
-
Improved Safety: Enhanced location tracking and automated alerts in emergencies
-
Future-Proofing: A scalable platform ready to support evolving 5G-based operations
Looking Ahead
TASSTA is now being gradually rolled out across all airport units that require both voice and high-speed data communication. From security patrols streaming live video to maintenance teams accessing digital manuals on the spot, the airport’s communication network is entering a new era—one where critical information moves as fast as the people who need it.
